Event Overview
The Veteran’s Challenge Tournament is a charity event be held at the Hellenic Club on Saturday the 3rd of August partnership with the ACT Branch of the Australian Commando Association to support the work it does with Special Forces veterans and their families.
The event is open to males and females from around the country that have served, or are currently serving within the Australian Defence Force – even if you have never boxed before. There is also a Masters category, for boxers aged over 40.
All bouts will be matched to ensure even weight, age and experience. Each bout is no more than 3 rounds, with each round lasting between 1.5 – 3 minutes depending on age & experience.
Get Prepared
Veterans, regardless of whether you have ever boxed before, are encouraged to sign up and start training with a Boxing Australia affiliated gym. Your local Boxing Australia State/Territory member association webpage can help you find a gym.
Let your coach know that you want to fight in this event, and if you can get prepared in time, they’ll get you ready to jump into the ring! Get 9n early as you will need to start at least 3 months before the event for training, and you will also need to obtain a competition membership with your State/Territory member association and undertake a pre-fight medical and blood test.
There is no pressure for applicants to progress all the way to tournament, and even if you or your coach later decides that you’re not ready for competition, you will have had some great training along the way. Please note: all coaches are required to hold current Boxing Australia coaching accreditation.
